Day Eleven - Balestrand to Bergen
With 24 hours in Balestrand, I started with the Kviknes Hotel which is beautifully preserved and maintained. Among the furnishings is the chair where Kaiser Wilhelm was sitting when he learned that Archduke Franz Ferdinand had been assassinated. The Kaiser was a frequent visitor to Balestrand and the hotel, but reportedly never returned after that visit.
As I was leaving the hotel to walk around, I heard singing from a meeting room in the hotel and found a choir rehearsing for a Country and Gospel Concert they were singing that evening. Since I would miss the concert, I had to stop by for part of the rehearsal! On a break, I met the guitarist who had gone to college in Macon, Georgia after leaving the US Navy in Jacksonville and knew exactly where Redeemer is. Small world.
