Day Twelve - Bergen

Bergen, Norway’s second largest city, frequently is Europe’s rainiest city. My arrival around 9 pm supported that reputation. I found the local Egon restaurant (see Oslo) and enjoyed a quick dinner of steak and fries before settling in. My hotel, the Magic Hotel Kløverhuset was near the ferry terminal and the old town, and the room (once again mobility accessible) was large and decorated with a “The Jetsons go the Las Vegas” flair.

Based on a recommendation from the Balestrand guitarist, I found excellent Norwegian food at Bryggeloftet: Traditional Bergen fish soup served with shellfish and sourdough bread, and Warm apple cake with vanilla ice cream.

I had hope to visit Edward Grieg’s home, studio, and modern recital hall, Troldhaugen, but found it was closed for the season, as were other Hanseatic museums. I enjoyed visiting the Bryggens museum which included archaeological excavations showing the age of Bergen, and a temporary exhibition Tales in Thread: The tapestry series “Åsmund Frægdagjeva” by Ragna Breivik.
